Esimene iseloomustav tunnus on see, et m\u00f5istekaardid koosnevad m\u00f5istetest (ringides v\u00f5i kastides) ning m\u00f5isteid \u00fchendavatest joontest, millega viidatakse nendevahelistele<br \/>\nseostele. M\u00f5istet \u00fchendavale joonele m\u00e4rgitud s\u00f5nadega t\u00e4psustatakse seoseid kahe m\u00f5iste vahel. M\u00f5nikord t\u00e4histatakse kontseptsiooni rohkem kui \u00fche s\u00f5naga (Novak, Ca\u0148as, 2008), ent hoiduda tuleks \u201elausetest kastides\u201c, mis t\u00e4hendab, et m\u00f5iste asemel on kasutatud tervet lauset. Teine m\u00f5istekaarte iseloomustav tunnus on m\u00f5istete kujutamine hierarhilisel kujul.
